What is the American Association of Debt Management
Organizations (AADMO)? The AADMO is a membership
based trade association to the credit counseling and debt
management industries. Their membership includes but is not
limited to: debt management organizations, credit counselors,
consumer credit counseling agencies, personal finance
educators, debt pooling organizations, debt negotiators, debt
adjusters, credit and debt information educators, credit and
debt information publishers, consumer lawyers and others
involved in the debt and credit
industries.
With nearly one hundred and fifty members nationwide, the
AADMO is the debt
management and credit counseling industry’s largest trade
association. The primary mission of the AADMO is to promote and
ensure the continued operation and viability of credit
counseling and debt management organizations through education
and advocacy organization.

The AADMO is reported to be the only trade association to have
held state law compliance workshops with the California
Department of Corporations (the enforcement agencies) and the
New York State Banking Department upon enactment of their
respective laws governing
credit counseling. In addition, the AADMO is reported to be
the only trade association for the industry to publish a formal
summary of state laws that has been reviewed by state
regulators.

retention, restrictions, legal citations, related laws and
other pertinent information.

The AADMO promotes consumer awareness through public education
of the credit and debt counseling industry. They accomplish
this through educational campaigns, media relations, consumer
brochures, gathering and publishing statistics, media alerts

the AADMO has no direct dealings with the public. Consumers
benefit from the AADMO because its members are better prepared
to serve.
