About Dave Ramsey, The Get Out of Debt Expert

Dave Ramey hosts a syndicated radio program, The Dave Ramsey Show, that is heard on over 350 radio stations throughout the United States and Canada, and is also on Sirius satellite radio and XM. He is the author of over 14 books, three of which have been on the New York Times Best Seller’s list. He has been featured on many prime media outlets including the world renown, Oprah Winfrey Show, 60 Minutes, and The Early Show on CBS. Talk about being busy, Dave is also the host of The Dave Ramsey Show at 8pm ET and repeated at 12am weekdays on the new Fox Business Network.

This is my personal opinion but one of the reasons some people take issue with Dave Ramsey is because his books and broadcasts often feature a conservative Christian perspective. Of course, this perspective is reflective of Ramsey's own religious beliefs. Regardless of your religious beliefs or lack there of, one thing no one can unequivocally deny is his success rate in helping people get out of debt. I’ve followed Dave for years, and as simple as his system is, IT WORKS! And as the saying goes, “You can’t argue with success!”

The Dave Ramsey Story

Shortly after graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1982, with a Bachelor of Science degree with double majors in Finance and Real Estate, Ramsey found a niche in foreclosure real estate. At the age of 26, through his brokerage firm, Ramsey Investments, Inc., he built portfolio rental properties worth more than four million dollars. He was so successful; he became one of Tennessee's youngest brokers to be admitted to the Graduate Realtors Institute.

However, his success came to a screeching halt when the Tax Reform Act of 1986 began to negatively impact the real estate business. At the time his business was built on (OPM) Other People’s Money, better known as DEBT! His downfall came when one of his prime investors examined his borrowing habits, didn’t liked what they saw and demanded that he pay $1.2 million worth of short-term notes within 90 days. That demand forced him to file bankruptcy.

Dave Ramsey Goes From Bankruptcy to Bravo!

After that tumultuous spiral downward, Dave vowed to never borrow money again. He eventually recovered his financial footing and after several friends asked for advice concerning their own financial troubles; Ramsey began counseling couples at his local church. The rest is history!
